Hi there. I'm Jon Moake, kiwi tramper...
Hi, my name is Jonathon Moake, I am a tramper (that's hiker to those of
you from the UK/US) from Christchurch, New Zealand. I have been a
regular visitor to the New Zealand mountains for many years, spending periods from one
day to several week's exploring our wonderful outdoors.

Me tramping on the Queen Charlotte Track, March 2016 |
My main passion is tramping but I am also interested in camping, survival skills, climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking and fitness walking. I have tramped extensively throughout both the North and South Island, from the North Island's Central Plateau volcanoes right south to Rakuira/Stewart Island.

My
main tramping grounds include Arthur's Pass National Park, the
Canterbury Foothills, Lake Sumner Forest Park and the area near Lewis
Pass Scenic Reserve all 1-3 hours drive from my home. I also spend a lot of time in Nelson Lakes National Park, Abel Tasman National Park, on the West Coast of the South Island, Kahurangi National Park and Fiordland.

I also enjoy
tramping on the Port Hills and Banks Peninsula which are clearly visible from my home in Christchurch. Despite their front country reputation there are many excellent tramps there...

Port Levy from the Summit Walkway, Banks Peninsula 2016 |
As well as my day and overnight tramping trips I also have some outdoor projects I am currently working on. These include:
 |
On the Port Hills Summit Walkway part of the Christchurch 360 Trail... |
 |
Te Araroa Trail, approaching Davies Bay, QCT |
 |
Te Araroa Trail, approaching Hope Halfway Hut, Lake Sumner FP... |

Finishing my penultimate Great Walk...Paparoa Track February 2021 |
Interesting...just walked all the way to Spencer Park and back. (!Phew, not bad for 71 years and arthritic a bit) started from Car park at the end of Bower Ave....great walk, except for arriving at Spencer Park, and finding the shop had absolutely zero decent food. I had imagined there would be a host of folk lining up after passing heaps of bikers on the way .. oh well, a lesson for next time..pack it in a back pack !!
ReplyDeletethnks for giving the distance, thought it wasa quite a way as I crawled limped and dragged myseld the last bit back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thankyou for informative site..will look out to do a few others a little later on lol

That is a great walk out to Spencer Park and one I have done many, many times. There is plenty of fine walking and tramping to be had around Christchurch..
